Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket

When I was a sophomore in high school, one of the short stories we read was ‘Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket’ by Jack Finney.  I won’t spoil the story for you, as you can find it online, but my 15 year old self was fascinated.  If something happened to me today, what would the contents of my pockets…or my bag…say about me?

Today’s prompt for August Break is ‘In my bag…’ and I wonder what a stranger would made of all the pens and spare keys.

Contents of my bag:

Wallet & checkbook, phone & IPod

Address book & Moleskine hardback notebook

Tissues & Tylenol

Bag containing nail clippers, barrettes, and small mirror

Keppra, for my epilepsy

Crabby wallet with most used cards

Coupons, AMC stubs card and gift card

Gum and chapstick

6 pens and 3 sets of spare keys (!!!)

Letter to my sister that was never mailed

For me, the most interesting item is the letter.  I can’t remember when I wrote it or what I wrote, since I send her a number of letters.  I’m not sure if I should send it or just keep it a mystery.  Maybe if she’s reading, I’ll let her decide.
