I took a bit of a different spin on ‘touch’ today. I’ve been thinking about all the ways that we have allowed technology to replace how we keep in touch with one another. Letters began being replaced by e-mail, phone calls replaced by texts; some people only ever communicate via Facebook (thank goodness I don’t have one of those).
For me, I still prefer letters…the handwriting, the choice of paper, the pen…each one is unique, irreplaceable. This arrived for me on Friday:
My mother and I have a complex relationship, so it was a very nice surprise to see a letter from her in my mailbox. It made me quite nostalgic, actually, to see her handwriting. So much better than a quick email or a text.
